    rayk's adventure book

    brush_girl_120807.jpg

    Hey guys!:D

I've finally got around to starting my sketchbook thread on here (after all that's what the study section is for). So this thread is dedicated to all kinds of stuff, so I'll be posting my doodles, wips, studys, experiments and so on! I encourage everyone else to to start an SB too :D

So lets get the ball rolling with a wip of a character drawing I'm working on:

    ITS THAT CAT AGAIN! !!

Nice, I like her frilly skirt, and her right hand. Sorry I can't come up with anything better then that to say. )= I would like to see what the heck she has on her legs though. Stockings? Boots? Pants?!?

The cat is awesome right? (Rayk saids it's not a cat though) We should all make a little logo for ourself. =D It would be a easy fun thing we can do to make DG more active.

@Thunder: Thanks, yep that's that cat thing. Hmm I didn't plan drawing in the legs, but I might thumbnail to see what I can come up with.
@2sek: Haha yeah, I think most people develop a little icon/logo thing that they draw into each of their work.

Okay, some updates with a little life drawing (yep thread is going the way of NSFW :ninja: ):

And a wip of an enviro thing I'm working on slowly:

Okay, I did a cloud study from window... but clouds moved too fast so most of it was from memory.

Good study. I am no good with painting to give good advise yet. All I can say right now is keep those studies up! As practice makes perfect.

Very nice, but it's time to refine some of these babies! the second one of your last post looks like something that can turn out to be a masterpiece =) not to say the others are bad or anything, i just like the middle one more.
There's a more mysterious feeling to it.

    hey guys!

i dono what you have called it P, but i'll call it Ship Battlefront as my reference point...I like where it's headed. At the point where it is atm, it's like reading a book halfway and the rest of the pages are blank... :S...ummm it would be interesting to see where you take it because it is telling so much of a story right now..

i dono what im talking about either lol *hits head*

i see the glimpse of a War, the "old tech" (the ships) against some kind of new ground technology that's turning the odds...for good or bad, we don't really know...but it's like it's 2 ships down and one barely getting away but it's a big target....

    ....i get what i mean -__-;

Very good points, DL. I agree, a picture holds a thousand words! One simple picture could hold a Whole story behind it, that's one of the reason why art is fascinating and why it's fun to be an artist. You get to create a world world! >=) Doesn't that "halfway book" feeling makes you want to see the "ending"? Ooooor perhaps create an ending of your own that will satisfy you? That gives me an idea for er game! Thanks DL and rayk!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

:D But hey, I'd love to get some crits too, so don't be afraid to say what looks off to you, or any problems that you can see.

Some updates, I've decided to finish off some of the old work I have lying around the place.

nice work dude! i am especially diggin the first one! But i really think you should try to complete some of your work, like giving them more details and texture instead leaving them as sketches. The least you could do is add more detail to the areas that are close up because they are suppose to be more visible. There aren't that many things that i could say, but paying close attention to light sources and casting highlights and shadows respectively is a must, and i think you are doing quite well on that, just need to be practices.

Color of the sky. I've notice that most if not all of your skies in these sketches appear only in hues of blue. The fact is that real skies have many shades of color (color of the rainbow). The sky's color actually depends on the position of the sun and the angle at which it's light rays hit our atmosphere. When the sun is near the horizon, there should be some warm colors in the sky (red, yellow, orange, purple, pink) and a perfect (sky blue color) only appears when the sun is directly above us. so for that first drawing there should a some other color in the sky instead of just blue since the light source didn't come directly from the above. Giving a bit more accurate color of the sky will help bring a sense of time in your environment.

That's all the crits i have now. hope it does more help then confusion. so yeah, listen to me at your own risk for i don't even know how to color XD

    Thankful People: rayk

tsu: Yeah good point on the sky, gotta force myself out of the addiction to that specific atmosphere. Thanks for the feedback, yeah must force myself to finish things .

Well I'll put up some life drawing for now, other stuff later. BTW, I've put my process up in the process thread for one of the paints above - What proccess do you usually TAKE? , hope it's beneficial!

Have been pretty busy with uni and other stuff, so I'll post up some more lifedrawings from last week. I've started using conte for one of them! Pretty fun medium :D

Conte? Whats conte? I'm going to guess it has something to do with the orangish picture.

This is another thing I have to work at. Just... finding nekkid peoples <.< XD Yeah, I want to get into some kind of art program, this is something I'm gonna have to do eventually.

How long does it usually take to to produce a sketch/drawing/whatever you want to call it like this?

@Thunder: Yeah, it's like a chalk type medium, really interesting to work with. I've some others using it, but haven't taken photos of them yet (I work about A2 size). These ones are range from 10 minutes to 20mins. If you can find a local life drawing group, by all means go to it! Beneficial no matter what you are drawing (I'm environment primary and it still helps).

Well been busy, but here is a commission I recently finished, playing around with style (had to meet the brief too), ended up being pressed for time due to uni :blank:.

Looks good dude, I would have liked to have seen something more dynamic in the face though. Did the client request a standing pose? It looks like a DnD character, very nice.

The arms seem a little short as well.

Now I'v gotta learn painting! Iv got a few questions dude:
what r u using? I use OC and PS, not much painter though.

Is it opacity or do you use shades of colour? Brush type?

    tell me noooooow!

I like the pavements too, really grounds the figure.:ninja:

Ah! Rayk, this is AWESOME stuff :D I love it so much!

Do you think it would be possible to get a larger copy of your jungle study one? It's gorgeous and I'd love to have it as my background if you're okay with that...

Really though, you've improved so much! Congrats and great work :)

Ahh that's good to hear shading turned out reasonable, pretty hard for me (should do some drapery studies >>;)

Anyway, an enviro for CA's Environment of the Week activity - The Cathedral Of Lilith . Was pressed on time as I don't have much free time anymore, but I like the direction it was heading (hope I can refine it sometime).

And I wish I had something more constructive to say, but your stuff is just a bit past out of my league. ^__^' This looks amazing to me whether or not you think it's refined.
