well it is nice color and the composition is good but clearly the light moves your eyes on to the center rocks, and the rock itself is a bit boring to look at, so I think some statue or well designed structure can be the highlight on that rock, or something like http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O49FLWIJjaU/Ru7cfCv5UiI/AAAAAAAAABo/fvs9JRx2YJE/s1600/Princess_Mononoke_TKCA71395.jpg
well, proportion, motion line are something you need to do first, and later on make sure you cross reference, the main thing you feel it is difficult is you don't draw legs that often man, I never draw half body, full body gives you better exercise on human form
yay that last one looks pretty amazing mate :) one thing I noticed on this landscape painting - the cold vs warm here is not in right relationship - the cold colors are too much depending of the red planet ( satellite ) the warm light should reflect one the cold surface and on some of the folds, compared with the night light of the moon which is so small satellite of the earth it's light reflecting on any surfaces, so this close distance should reflecting the light of the red planet ;) that's my opinion hope it make sense cuz how much I am writing that much I dunno what I am talking :P
cheers!
Thanks man, now you mention it yes there should be more warm light pooling in from the planet. I think next time I touch that painting I will shift the ground a little more towards red/purple to tie the moon in a little better.
the moon one I think you need a bit more balance, the red moon takes most of the focus which cause the right hand side of the picture is too heavy, and for story purpose I think you need something on the ground to create some fun and deep to the picture, O just do a quick one, shit color through but give you some ideas
the space one I think character in front can have more depth and draw girls man they look better with tight space suit, and in front should be cooler and darker I guess
Thanks for the crits Herman, very helpful! :orange:
I think I will call that planetscape done, need to move on to other stuff - like that pic from first post, decided to continue with it (still wip till next weekend, I haven't really touched the center piano bit yet :( ).
great update man, the second one has good design, but I feel I get lost in the picture as the the light don't let me settle down on a major place, the top part and guy with red pans, and the front 2 characters and the middle box both of them share same importance which make me feel confuse, the last piece is nicer now much more balanced
again post the ref for that girl so we can critique, but base on the post you have improvement on the proportion man
Thanks for the help herman, I have it finally done! :D
I thought I'd put together a process strip in case it helps anyone. Personally I find it helps when I start to make sure I establish a 3 dimensional space while I work abstractly to establish the image itself. It really helps to have an idea of what you want to do before you start, so you don't wander around aimlessly, however getting attached to something too strongly will probably hold you back on the potential you can achieve by exploring around. For this image I just had an idea of a piano in a cave.
Also initial block in for another wip, I try to keep a few wip around so I don't get bogged down on one of them. That way I can also look at each one with fresh eyes when I come back to work on it. Hope to post some studies next!
Thanks for the wips Rayk, definitely a lot for me to learn from them! Also herman told me the same thing about doing several paintings at the same time, I gotta do some of that!
